I have used 2 this week and asked more questions and inquiry into the use of texture in the pictures. The students then during reading time were sharing the "texture" they were noticing in books. The visual was there and they just needed the words and the idea to notice and share. I will spend more time on these visual aspectsw of literture. As far as assessing.....I will leave that to the Art teacher.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"43711320","dateCreated":"1317832065","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"wolflor","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/wolflor","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1317856531\/wolflor-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/beyond-the-basal-fall11.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/43711320"},"dateDigested":1532428903,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Students as Consumers and Producers of Text","description":"After reading the article "Becoming Critical Consumers and Producers of Text", I realized that as a teacher, I am behind in the times when it comes to technology and how I use it with my students. As a special education instructor I most often give my students the sites that I want them to go to when we use the web. I am making my students more consumers of text than producers. I feel because of the ability levels of my students and because of our short time period, this has worked best as far as classroom management, but am I allowing my students to truly benefit from the activiites.
\n
\nI've had discussions with members of the language arts department and how we could incorporate reader's workshop with 150 students. I think creating blogs to use with the students would be one way reader's workshop could work with a large group of students.
\n
\nI look forward to learning more about ways I can use technology with my special needs students to make them both consumers and producers of text","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
